Applique, Couching, Chenille, Satin Stitch, Accent Stitches and French Knots

This embroidery is based on an 18th century French document and has been used for curtain borders and headboards. By combining techniques, this piece grows to a beautiful richness. The silk velvet and silk taffeta appliques are edged either with a hand couched gold metallic thread or a hand satin stitched chenille. The flowers and leaves are a traditional satin stitch with delicate hand stitched accents and French knots.
