Sunnylands

“Rich in Historical Significance”

Built between 1963 and 1966, Sunnylands served as the winter residence of Lenore and Walter Annenberg. Now owned by the Annenberg Foundation Trust, it is a popular historic site in Rancho Mirage, California. When the trust wanted to restore areas of the house to their original glory, they called on Penn & Fletcher to help make Sunnylands look brand new.

Penn & Fletcher recreated the work of noted interior designer Billy Haines, with chain stitch crewel work flowers that go both over and under the trapunto latticework trellis.

For the living room, we embroidered more than 200 panels for over 40 pieces, including chairs, sofas and pillows.

The Room of Memories features our trapunto work on the sofa and chairs.

One of the most satisfying aspects of this project was how beautifully the more traditional floral elements were integrated with the more modern shapes of the home and furniture.

Our artisanal work can show up almost any place, as in these tucked away low stools.
